Unlike Sterile Water for Injection, Bacteriostatic Water contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol, which helps inhibit bacterial growth and allows reconstituted compounds to be stored for up to 28 days when refrigerated at 2–8°C under sterile conditions. This makes it a preferred option for multi-dose use and repeated withdrawals.
Sterile Water for Injection, on the other hand, is a single-dose sterile water that does not contain bacteriostatic or antimicrobial agents, preservatives, or added buffers, and should typically be used immediately after opening.
