Bacteriostatic water (BAC) is an essential ingredient in the reconstitution of many medicines, including human growth hormone (HGH) and human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG). Reconstitution is also required for peptides, TB-500 (Thymosin Beta-4), Melanotan 2 (MT2), BPC157, growth factors, and other pharmaceutical compounds stored in lyophilized powder form.
Bacteriostatic water for injection has an extra preservative agent added into the water called Metacresol (m-Cresol, 3-methylphenol CH₃C₆H₄). Metacresol (used in Pfizer Genotropin and insulin as a protein stabilizer, protects the finished solution of a drug from bacteria) is a colorless liquid that has low toxicity and low vapor pressure. This preservative enables repeated withdrawals from the same vial.
On the other hand, Sterile Water for Injection is a single-dose sterile water that does not contain any bacteriostatic, antimicrobial agents or added buffers.
